I eat out a lot, definitely more than I should. I’m one of those annoying people taking pictures of my food, my drinks, everything. Don’t touch anything til I get my shot! Haha. Sometimes I share these photos on Instagram (@riamichelle) and sometimes I don’t. I’ve amassed quite the little collection of food shots now and rather than waste them, I figured I’d share them here. I’m often asked for recommendations when people come to town and this way I can just direct them here. To kick things off here’s a couple of spots I’ve hit in the past few months.

Chillbar (Hollywood, FL): This spot is only a 5 minute drive from my place so obviously that’s a win. It’s located at the Yellow Green Farmer’s Market which is my favorite farmer’s market. They serve brunch on Saturday’s and Sunday’s from  til 4 pm another win because I like to sleep in. You definitely should make a reservation otherwise you will wait as my girlfriend’s and I did. The drinks are supposedly amazing, they had temporarily lost their liquor license when we went. They made us makeshift versions with wine we purchased from a nearby booth. I ordered the Fabulous French Toast Supreme. It consists of Challah bread soaked in a mixture of organic eggs, pure vanilla, cinnamon, and freshly grated nutmeg, served with caramelized bananas, organic butter & 100% maple syrup. It’s pure delicious decadence. We also ordered a side of turkey bacon (I’m generally anti turkey bacon) so good, we ordered a second round.

Love Is Blind (Coral Gables, FL): Craig and I met up with my fellow blogger Nicholl in the Gables. This is farther than I like to travel for brunch, just because there’s guaranteed to be traffic. They had a great unlimited mimosa special because they had recently opened. Nicholl and I definitely took advantage of it. My Prosciutto and Pesto Foccacia Airbag appetizer was my absolute favorite thing. I would go back just for that. I popped my Chicken N’ Waffles cherry and got a double dose of bacon because Craig doesn’t eat pork. I’d never gotten the hype until I took my leftovers home (stuffed on the foccacia) and woke up from a nap and ate them. Now I totally get it.

Swank Southern Kitchen (Davie, FL): This place is a really close to my place as well. A friend of mine from high school checked in on foursquare and my phone alerted me for some weird reason. So glad it did. This photo is of Craig’s food because mine wasn’t photo worthy womp womp. He got their Blue Chicken & Waffles which he devoured. Pure elation. I want to try their regular Chicken & Waffles with marshmallow sage sauce…I’m intrigued. I had the Short Rib Meatleaf which was okay. I should have followed my instincts and gone with the 18 Hour Pulled Pork Sliders. I’m actually afraid to go again, because there’s so much I want to try.I’m too indecisive. They also do brunch so I really need to get on this stat!

The Sybarite Pig (Boca Raton, FL): I’m rarely this far north, but I was starved and I wanted something good and different. I got on Yelp and this spot seemed interesting enough. I got the Korean Shortrib (yassss), the Mac n’ Cheese and a bottle of Weihenstephaner Vitus. I’m not a huge beer drinker but occasionally I’ll have one. The waiter recommended it to me when I asked for something light. The banana and citrus flavors were light and refreshing. I STILL regret not getting Kimchi. What is wrong with me?! Instead I got the mac n cheese side which was good but not anything special. Craig ordered the Wagyu Duck Fat Burger (of course, he lovesss burgers). This is another spot where the menu is so interesting and there’s so much I want to try. I really wish this spot was closer to me.

So that’s that. I was kind of all over South Florida on this one. In the future, I’ll probably do restaurants on more of an individual basis.

The Shopping Block

Heyyyy, I’m putting on my event hosting hat again. Who can say no to Refinery 29? They know how to throw a fashion shindig. Refinery 29 and Simon Malls have been doing a fall mall tour across the country called The Shopping Block. It’s basically like a block party, with a shopping twist. I’m so happy Miami is included on the tour, and I was even happier to have been chosen as their City Insider.

So what’s happening? Well there will be 8 local vendors hand-picked by Refinery 29. Including the homie Simonett from Style Mafia. A DIY booth for you creative types (I’ll steer clear for everyone’s sake), a beauty bar to check out all the latest fall makeup trends, a photo booth (where I’ll be posted up), and best of all a sweepstakes where you can enter to win a $1500 fall wardrobe from Simon & Refinery 29. So I hope you will join me this Saturday (10/4)!

We’ve all kind of heard the chatter about wearable tech, but I haven’t seen it done quite so luxe. On instagram (you can peep it below) I recently created a look inspired by the MICA (My Intelligent Communication Accessory) bracelet. The bracelet, designed by the always trendsetting Opening Ceremony and engineered by tech giants Intel. It’s what’s inside baby! I couldn’t resist haha, I built my PC with an Intel processor so I’m a fan. I’m still hung up on what’s outside however. The design of this thing; we’re talking black waterskin skin, pearls from China, and lapis stones from Madagascar is just luxurious. The bracelet will be released mid-November…so like just in time for my birthday. I love that it’s cute, most of these wearable tech pieces are very athletic inspired which doesn’t go with my aesthetic generally. Which means when I’m shooting an outfit post, I have to remember to take them off, put them back ono etc. Much like the dreaded hair tie. If I’m wearing the MICA with any of the above pieces on my wishlist or the look I created below, I’m really not going to mind. It just goes.

I work with Style Coalition quite a bit here on the blog, you can check out some of our projects here. It was so great to stop by their office space and put faces to the people (hi Christina!) who I’ve been emailing with for some time now. Lounges are always so appreciated during fashion week. It’s a constant go, go go, so it’s nice to have a spot amidst the madness to pause, recharge, and refresh. Style Coalition teamed up with TotallyHer and Burt’s Bees to host this invite only event. Extra special love for introducing me to this amazing Lip Crayon from Burt’s Bees. Who knew?! The pigment is amazing and layers great with the other color products in their line. The makeup artist showed me a few tricks hehe.

Sometimes I’ve gotta be comfortable. So I ditch my heels (literally they are in my purse) and I throw on my trusty Chanel flats and grab a comfy pair of jeans. These are comfort clothing staples. I chose these high-rise jean leggings because this style is very flattering on me, flats or not. You may remember this style from my last post Midtown Cool. This is just a different wash. You bet your butt I ordered a few other washes.

A Dash of Leather

I love a splash of leather. It usually adds the perfect “downtown cool” vibe to a look for me. In this instance I paired a girly floral print tank with this faux leather skirt with zipper details. Mixing the soft and the hard is my fave. It’s still a bit hot for leather here in Miami (I was dying in this look, I wore for a low-key dinner date) but I can definitely see this working with NYC’s cooling temperatures.

This look reminds me so much of me in high school. I guess I got dressed with a back to school vibe in mind. I wanted to layer a bit because back to school usually signals fall and cooler weather. Here in Florida it’ll be a little while before that happens. The beanie is definitely wishful thinking but the batwing cardigan is perfect because it’s so lightweight. I’ve been wearing it a lot or keeping it in my car because people usually blast their a/c indoors and I’m always cold. I’m hoping this look puts it out into the universe that I’m totally open to a drop in temperature.

Took these shots back in June! Like woah. Can’t believe I’ve had my natural hair out of extensions for this long. Anyway, I was on my way out for some errands and decided to stop in my parking garage and take some quick shots for instagram. To be fair to me, it’s super hot here during the day. I try to wear as little as possible, no matter what I’m getting up. I only own two pairs of sneakers and these are my absolute favorite ones. They feel like walking on air. I’m in love. I want more, more more. Who would have thought?!

After we decided to grab dinner at Sakaya midtown. My first time there, it was so delicious. I’d had sort of rough morning so I wanted to dress up in a way that made me feel spiffy but still comfortable. Express sent over a selection of their jeans (which are currently buy 1, get 1 $19.50 by the way) to me. This high waisted acid wash pair immediately caught my eye. I don’t know if it’s the 90s kid in me or what. When I pulled these babies on and realized they were leggings too I was ecstatic. They fit so well! It can be hard to sell me on jeans but I’m so sold on this pair.

Lately I’ve been spending a lot of time not at home. I shot this look exactly where I’ve been spending my days. Authenticity guys, I’m all about it haha. So basically I’ve been living out of this Kipling bag and another one I picked up at the store at the #Back2Kipling event a few weeks ago. You can shop both above. Below you can see some shots from the event along with a shot of YouTube star Megan Nicole performing. She was so cute.

I didn’t grow up with Kipling like a lot of people I know but I can totally understand how this bag is such a classic in the lives of many. I love the durability of these lil nylon bags. This also marks my first monogrammed anything. Everyone that has seen it has commented on how cute it is that my name is on the bag. Get your own monogram free on Monday’s with code: MONDAYGRAM
